Full Dentures Replace All of Your Teeth
Sometimes it is necessary to replace all your natural teeth with a set of full (or complete) dentures. Having your full dentures custom-fit will ensure they are comfortable and accurate. There is usually an eight-week adjustment period between having all your teeth extracted and inserting the full dentures. This gives your gums time to properly heal and allows for the natural shrinkage that will occur in your mouth so that you hopefully require fewer denture relines and adjustments in the future. If you don’t want to wait, immediate dentures are another option.
Denture Replacement
Remember dentures do not last forever! If your denture is 5-7 years or older, it may be time for a replacement. We have all heard stories of people we know who have worn the same set of dentures for many, many years. This is far from ideal! Dentures that are worn can lead to a multitude of problems which include:
- TMJ (jaw) issues
- Frequent headaches
- Sore gums
- “Clicking” of the teeth while chewing and speaking
- Poor aesthetics
- Difficulty tearing and chewing food
- Increased bacteria in the mouth
- Bone loss
- Bad breath
- Poor digestion
- Acid reflux
- Staining of denture teeth
- Wrinkle-sunken face, protruding jaw/chin
